J. Ann Tickner is Professor in the School of International Relations at University of Southern California. She researches feminist perspectives on international relations theory, with a particular focus on ways of reconceptualizing security.

Tickner is author of Gendering World Politics; Issues and Approaches in the Post-Cold War Era (2001), Gender in International Relations: Feminist Perspectives on Achieving Global Security (1992), and Self-Reliance Versus Power Politics: American and Indian Experiences in Building Nation-States (1987).

Tickner is also President of the International Studies Association (ISA). Representing 80 countries, ISA has more than 3,000 members worldwide and is the most respected and widely known scholarly association in this field. ISA publishes the flagship journal International Studies Quarterly, as well as International Studies Review, International Studies Perspectives, and Foreign Policy Analysis.

Tickner has a B.A. in History from the University of London, an M.A. in International Relations from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Brandeis University.
