Job Duties
Cheryl is responsible for events planning and coordination at the Mershon Center. She is the person to see to schedule a speaker or conference, and conducts event management and follow-up. She also works with a variety of partners on campus to create events. Cheryl is also responsible for the grants application process, including faculty and student research grants and the undergraduate study abroad scholarship. Finally, Cheryl provides support to Mershon Center Director Richard Herrmann and Communications Coordinator Cathy Becker.
Professional Experience
Cheryl comes from Earlham College in Richmond, Ind., where she spent two years working with the Border Studies Program. In addition to managing marketing and recruitment, she supported on-site program staff, advised students, and planned events on campus around immigration, migration and human rights. Cheryl has also served as co-leader of the Heidelberg College service-learning program on the U.S.-Mexico border, assisting students as they implemented summer youth programming in communities in the Texas Rio Grande Valley.
As a graduate student, Cheryl spent a summer in Ecuador teaching English to language learners of all levels. As an undergraduate, she spent a year abroad studying in Seville, Spain, and Cuernavaca, Mexico. She has also spent some time traveling to Italy, France, England, and Portugal as well as to many points along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Cheryl graduated from Heidelberg College in 2005 with a degree in Spanish and International Studies, and from Ohio University in 2007 with a master's in International Affairs specializing in Latin American Studies. At Ohio University, she also earned certificates in Women's Studies and Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
