Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

VIEW: Violence, Ideology, and Extremism Working Group

The Violence Ideology and Extremism Working Group (VIEW) is a multidisciplinary interuniversity network of scholars that is hosted by the Mershon Center for International Security Studies at The Ohio State University. While VIEW scholars come from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds and universities, they are unified by shared interests in violence, ideology, and extremism.

Consider applying to VIEW if you are a scholar whose work engages with at least two of these themes. Our mission is to learn from one another, foster collaboration, support emerging scholars, and advance innovative research through regular events and discussions.

We sponsor activities such as:

  • Research presentations and roundtables
  • Mentorship opportunities
  • Collaborative writing and grant development
  • Public engagement and policy-relevant dialogue

For more information or to get involved, please contact Dr. Laura Dugan

Featured Presentation: Explore our recent Mershon Monday session, where VIEW members examined how violence and ideology are commonly conceptualized, and how public statements by political elites endorsing racist or extremist views can influence grassroots mobilization and activity.
