A Master Class for Graduate Students Researching in Conflict-Affected Settings

The Mershon Center for International Security Studies is delighted to invite graduate students to a cross-disciplinary master class. Designed as a collaborative space for advanced research exchange and learning, it will focus on themes related to political violence and armed conflict, gray zones and criminality, transitional justice, peacemaking, and peacebuilding. Prof. Roddy Brett, Director of the Global Insecurities Center and Professor in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Bristol, will facilitate the discussion.
Students at any stage of a research project, from proposal writing to processing fieldnotes to finalizing a dissertation, are invited to participate.
This two-hour session will offer you the opportunity to:
- Share your current research with peers from across disciplines.
- Refine your research questions and research agenda.
- Discuss methodological challenges in a constructive environment.
- Help your peers at different stages to frame their own projects.
- Learn from the insights of colleagues and receive input from a leading expert in peace and conflict studies
Structure of the Master Class:
- Participants will circulate a 1–2 page research summary to the cohort by September 28th.
- During the session, each participant will give a 5–7 minute presentation of their research.
- The remainder of the time will be dedicated to peer feedback, shared discussion, and guidance from Dr. Brett.
- Master Class 10:30am-12:30pm
- Lunch 12:30-1:30pm
