Scrap Heap: Mershon's McClatchy Unveils the Unseen Battle of a Veteran's Transition to Civilian Life
In this powerful multimedia performance developed with funding from the Mershon Center, Kevin McClatchy portrays a US Army Special Forces veteran who is transitioning from military to civilian life.
Using spoken word, verbatim text, movement, and sonic immersion, actor/writer McClatchy places the audience at the center of the veteran’s experience of armed conflict and its aftermath. Inspired by a true story, Scrap Heap is a turbulent, darkly funny, whiplash tour that examines the costs of war through the eyes of one forgotten soldier. This intensely physical production, directed by Ohio State Professor Jeanine Thompson, questions what is demanded of military service members as well as society’s responsibility to welcome them back.
Both performances will be followed by a community conversation with veterans.
July 27: facilitator Craig Bryan and special guests Armond Goss and Jasmin Hurley

Please note: Scrap Heap discusses combat-related trauma and suicide and uses flashing lights and sound effects including gunfire.
