Yunkang Yang is a post-doctoral research fellow for the Mershon Center for International Security Studies' Security and Governance Cluster. His areas of expertise include U.S. right-wing media, disinformation, digital media, and social movements. His research in these areas has appeared in leading academic journals such as Journal of Communication and Information, Communication & Society. Before joining Mershon, Yang worked as a data/statistics consultant at the Center for Social Science Computation and Research at the University of Washington. He has many years of experience in applying network analysis, text-as-data, machine learning and natural language processing techniques to communication-related studies.
Yang is currently working on a book project about right-wing media in the U.S. including Fox News, Breitbart, etc. He is also involved in several collaborative projects that study the spread and impact of disinformation and misinformation related to COVID-19 and the 2020 U.S. election.
