Affiliate Small Grants
For a general understanding of the Mershon Center for International Security Studies' (Mershon Center) mission, funding goals, and categories of funding, please review the overview of Mershon funding on our website. Small grants are only available to current Mershon Center faculty and student affiliates. Students must be actively pursing a degree at The Ohio State University to be eligible.
Affiliate Small Grant Requests
Current individual Mershon Center affiliates may apply for up to $2,000 (faculty) or $1,500 (graduate students) to support conference travel and other research-related, Mershon Center-relevant expenditures, once their departmental, Mershon Center, and contractual funding for such travel is exhausted. Only current Mershon Center faculty and student affiliates are eligible.
Funds are intended to support affiliate travel for research or conference presentation only. Preference will be given to proposals that connect directly to projects already supported by the Mershon Center, rather than for new projects.
Proposals from graduate students must include a brief letter from their faculty advisor articulating the significance of the project and its relevance to the Mershon Center’s mission, and attesting to the fact that no other funds are available.
Grants are considered on a rolling basis by Mershon Center leadership. Please submit applications to Kyle McCray.
Affiliate Research Conversations Request
Mershon Center invites its affiliates to make use of 1039 Derby for small meetings relevant to the Mershon Center's mission. We especially encourage work-in-progress and brainstorming conversations, and in some cases can provide refreshments and modest tech support. Ideally such requests will come from more than one affiliate and will enact Mershon's multidisciplinary approach. Non-affiliates are welcome as part of the mix.
