The Divided Community Project - in collaboration with Stanford Law School's Gould Center for Conflict Resolution and the National Association for Community Mediation – will host a conversation illustrating civil rights peacemaking and conflict resolution.
Civil rights peacemaking and conflict resolution take shape in communities through diverse methods and approaches. Community mediation centers often serve as key hubs for resolving neighborhood and community-wide disputes, while local peacemaking initiatives and nonprofit programs play equally vital roles. At the state and federal levels, agencies like the Department of Justice Community Relations Service step in when heightened tensions threaten to tear at a community’s social fabric.
What works in one community may not resonate in another, underscoring the importance of cultural humility and the ability to build trust as a third party entering a conflict. Success depends on understanding the unique dynamics of each community and earning the trust necessary to foster meaningful engagement.
Join us for a dynamic conversation featuring practitioners and pracademics who will share powerful stories from their work in conflict resolution and its transformative impact on communities. Participants will leave with practical insights and at least one actionable idea to strengthen their community’s resilience in the face of conflict.
