This year's Joseph Fletcher Prize for Best Edited Book in Historical International Relations was awarded to "Ideology in U.S. Foreign Relations: New Histories", edited by the Mershon Center's Christopher McKnight Nichols, Wayne Woodrow Hayes Chair in National Security Studies and Professor of History and David Milne, professor of modern history at the University of East Anglia.

According to the jury, this book "breaks new ground in the study of ideology and US foreign policy". They were particularly impressed by the inclusion of chapters on subjects such as indigenous subjecthood and women’s international thought alongside more traditional topics.
