Mershon and the Moritz College of Law co-sponsored the annual national security conference of the ABA's Standing Committee on Law and National Security (SCOLANS), held November 17-18 in Washington DC for the first in-person meeting since the pandemic.

Mershon Senior Faculty Fellow Dakota Rudesill chaired an interdisciplinary session, "Nuclear Weapons and the Law: The Ukraine War and Beyond." Said Rudesill, "This was the first panel on nuclear issues at the annual ABA national security conference in decades. The last one may have been during the Cold War. That in itself said something about the issues and our times."

Other panelists were Prof. David Koplow from Georgetown; Madelyn Creedon, former Assistant Secretary of Defense and former Deputy Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA); and Leonor Tomero, former senior staff member for the U.S. House Armed Services Committee in charge of nuclear, space, and missile defense issues.
