National Security Simulation Applications Now Open!

Applications are now open for the Ohio State National Security Simulation (Sim), hosted by the Mershon Center for International Security Studies on October 24 and 25, 2025 at the Fawcett Center.

Offered in alternate years, this two-day immersive role-playing exercise gives students the chance to work alongside distinguished real-life practitioners in the media, the military, business, and all levels and branches of government. Students learn how to act as professionals as they support decision-makers in realistic crisis situations. Some students have leveraged their Sim contacts directly into careers in law, intelligence, journalism, and beyond. Others have used it to develop their understanding of American government in action or to experience the challenges of professional life.
The Sim is open by application to upper-level undergraduates as well as graduate and professional students. You don't have to have domain expertise, but we ask for a firm commitment for the full two days of play and debriefing. A certificate of participation in the Sim, which has a national reputation, is a valuable line on your resume!
Player slots are limited and we have applicants from neighboring schools, so apply early! This year, based on student feedback, we have created an extra enhancement: Tactical Writing, a 1-credit course in the writing and speaking skills used by professionals in high-pressure situations. Registration for this optional course gives you automatic admission to the Sim.
Alternatively, you may apply online.
