Ohio State students present Diplomacy Lab projects at conference

On October 20, 2025, Humza Azgher, Joseph Barlage, Emma Guess, and Hayden Price presented their Diplomacy Lab projects at the "Enhancing General and Health Literacy in the Age of Misinformation" conference hosted by Georgia State University. All four students are seniors in the Ohio State College of Medicine’s Biomedical Science (BMS) major. Learn more about the BMS major.

Students completed their projects during autumn 2024 while enrolled in MEDCOLL 3998: Design, Analysis, and Dissemination of Biomedical and Healthcare Research, a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) offered through the Ohio State College of Medicine. Working in small teams, students conducted research aimed at improving the medical clearance process for U.S. Foreign Service Officers and their dependents. The class had the unique opportunity to present its findings to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Medical Services in November and December 2024.
2025 presentations were as follows:
- Hayden Price, Emma Guess, & Lorraine S. Wallace. Application of Evidence-Based Health Literacy Guidelines in the Redesign of Medical Clearance Forms for U.S. Foreign Service Officers.
- Joseph Barlage, Humza Azgher & Lorraine S. Wallace. Development of a Secure and Interactive Patient-Accessible Electronic Health Record (PAEHR) to Bolster Secure Patient-Provider Communication.
